2017’s Wonder Woman was a seminal moment in comic book movie history. After several poorly written and acted female superhero flicks, it marked a turning of the tides.

Not only was it a great movie on its own, it was also one of (if not the) best movie in the DCEU and established Wonder Woman as one of their biggest players going forward.

She’s always been a crucial part of the Justice League in both the comics and cartoons, and had enjoyed a successful live action TV show in the ‘70s. However, some doubts remained.

With Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins, those doubts were obliterated.

Wonder Woman’s journey to the big screen was nearly very different though. In the ‘00s, Joss Whedon wrote a Wonder Woman script which producer Joel Silverman had talked Sandra Bullock into starring in; Bullock even had the backing of TV Wonder Woman Lynda Carter.

The WGA strike eventually put paid to the idea, though it might have been for the best. Despite Whedon’s skill at writing kickass women, the script is pretty poor.

Steve Trevor becomes the main character, Diana frequently tells people to ‘be a man’ and there are several long descriptions of her feet. Yikes.
