Prior the Bryan Singer’s X-Men, Stan Lee and Chris Claremont were in talks with Carcolo Pictures in 1989 to make Wolverine & The X-Men, with James Cameron producing and then wife Kathryn Bigelow directing. As well as a star studded production (The Land Before Time’s Gary Goldman was writing too), they had some big stars pencilled in before the whole thing collapsed.

Bob Hoskins was down for Wolverine, and while it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Hugh Jackman in the role now, even without that Hoskins isn’t a choice that it feels like we’ve particularly missed out on.

Angela Bassett as Storm though is a casting that feels so perfect, it’s a travesty we never got to see it. Especially given that Halle Berry would eventually bring the iconic character to the big screen, becoming one of the most criticised parts of the film.

Bassett wouldn’t have butchered the toad/lightning line as Berry did.

We did eventually get to see Angela Bassett in a comic book movie, with 2016’s Black Panther. Still, this role restricts her from fully showcasing her ability and hardly makes up for missing out on her as Storm.
