12 Alternative Horror Movie Endings You Didn't See

8. Chris Goes To Jail - Get Out (2017)

Jordan Peele is one of those annoying hard working, talented types who gets a stab at a second successful career: going from one half of successful comedy duo Key and Peele ("I wish I was high on potenuse... ") to making one of the most best horror movies of the Trump era.

Subtext aside, this a film with an effective yet simple set-up. When Chris is invited to spend the weekend with his girlfriend Rose's parents, he has one question: "Do they know I'm black?"

This leads to some immensely awkward encounters (they have black servants), some sinister hypnotherapy and an avatar horror plot of both witty and uncomfortably accurate societal resonance.

Rose, Mom and Dad aren't exactly who they claim to be: for years they have been transferring their consciousness' to younger, fitter bodies, taking over and ultimately suppressing the host's personality. Chris does make it out alive and after a final confrontation with Rose, is rescued on the road by his pal Rod. The good guys win, right?

Well, the alternate ending is considerably more downbeat and yet perhaps more in keeping with Peele's original intentions behind the film's message on systemic racism. Chris still defeats rose with a shotgun but is picked up by the cops and taken to jail, where Rod pays him a visit.

He is now just another Black man behind bars, silently seething with the injustice of his incarceration. He walks away from the glass, leaving rod hanging on the prison phone.
