12 Awesome 2014 Performances In Otherwise Awful Movies

2. Ray Liotta - The Identical

The Movie: One of the worst-reviewed films of last year (it scored just 7% on Rotten Tomatoes), The Identical was a peculiar "what it?" scenario loosely adapted from the early life of Elvis Presley. The singer had a twin brother who was stillborn, and the movie suggests what might've happened if that brother had not merely survived, but gone on to impersonate his famous brother. It's just...weird. The Performance: The one stand-out aspect of the movie is Ray Liotta's genuinely brilliant performance as Reece Wade, the Preacher father of the second brother, who he secretly raises as his own son when the parents cannot afford to. Though his religiously-inclined character could have become an easy caricature, Liotta completely inhabits the role, a far cry from most of his recent roles as corrupt cops and shady sorts. He also does a fine job in the later stages of the movie as his character ages and, of course, Liotta's features become somewhat disguised under layers of old man make-up.
