12 Best Films & TV Shows Starring Bruce Campbell

7. Xena: Warrior Princess & Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

From this point on, Campbell's key roles actually get pretty good and iconic. These are the characters that made his name and gained him such a large cult following. The first of these, and one that actually made Bruce Campbell something of a temporary household name at the end of the 1990s, was the role of Autolycus in the very successful Greek mythology series Xena: Warrior Princess and its predecessor Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Although these shows were primarily vehicles for their stars Lucy Lawless and Kevin Sorbo, it was the frequent appearances by Autolycus - King Of Thieves - and Ted Raimi's Jox The Mighty that often provided excellent comic relief in a televisual universe that, occasionally, was in danger of taking itself a bit too seriously. The characters were painted as genuinely likeable and humorous, with both Campbell and Raimi relishing the opportunity to show some fairly impressive comedic chops. While Campbell sadly didn't appear quite as often as he probably should have done, his character remains memorable and granted him at least some recognition. He certainly suits lighthearted roles like Autolycus more than, say, straight acting roles like Jack in Maniac Cop. Plus, come on... That moustache is outstanding.
