7. Flood - Noah

The Day After Tomorrow
Paramount

It really is hard to put into words anything that would accurately depict this film, an incredibly divisive piece by notably divisive Director Darren Aronofsky. The retelling of the one of the most notable Bible stories feels more like a new entry to the Lord of The Rings Trilogy than a Christian film, but one word that definitely is applicable in describing the film is spectacular.

Russell Crowe is the interesting choice to play the famous titular character, who is given the job to build an ark to allow for the survival of the remaining species on Earth from an upcoming flood. There is an awful lot of dramatic licence at play here, with the addition of walking rock creatures depicting fallen angels as well as Noah contemplating murdering his grandchildren, all not in the original bible entry.

While some religious minded folk may take umbrage at this, anyone looking a decent Fantasy Drama movie will be rewarded. It doesn't all work and the final act drags, but the flood scenes are beautifully realised, while the film does a good job of addressing deeper issues like what it means to be human.
