12 Biggest Retcons In Harry Potter Movies

11. The Students Wear Hats In The Great Hall (Then Don't)

Harry Potter Great Hall Hats
Warner Bros.

Remember when the students in The Philosopher's Stone wore night-cap-like hats during the feast and the Sorting Ceremony in the Great Hall? Well, none of the other directors seem to have.

From the first film onwards, the detail was dropped entirely as if it never existed. The students no longer have to wear silly hats of any sort for anything (Sorting Hat aside).

It's not the only thing the later films change about the uniforms either: in the first two films, the students wear plain black robes with thick striped ties and colourful house shields. But then, in the third film onwards, the robes have coloured hoods and pinstripe ties and their house shields are decidedly dimmer.
