12 Cancelled Sci-Fi Moves We Wish We Could Have Seen

5. Transformers 2, But Not Terrible

Godzilla vs Batman

Michael Bay’s Transformers was a surprise with critics, as well as an unsurprising smash at the box office, upon its release in 2007. The much-maligned director struck gold with this nostalgic, propulsive throwback to the sci-fi adventures of the eighties, but the sequel’s development was plagued by rewrites due to 2008’s writer’s strike grinding the Hollywood machine to a rare standstill.

What we eventually got was a muddled mess of a follow-up which critics rightfully scorned as too loud, too abrasive, and borderline impossible to follow. But a scan through earlier drafts of the script reveals that Revenge of the Fallen had immense potential, and a lot of plot holes could have been sealed up by realizing this original vision.

With this original version we would have gotten a fight between Jetfire and one of the Fallen’s many minions, which accounts for the former’s inexplicable absence throughout much of the film as it was released, as well as an essential scene which explains the existence of humanoid Decepticon Alice via an ad for a theme park attraction featuring her prototype.
