12 Castings For New Movies That Prove Hollywood Has Gone Insane

11. Will Smith As Deadshot - Suicide Squad

Comic book castings that go against the grain aren't exactly anything new, but it's still a rare thing for someone as top level as Will Smith (in terms of pay grade and previous) to be cast in something as busy as Suicide Squad.

And he's not exactly the first name that would leap out of IMDB if you were looking to cast a cold calculating killer with a ruthless streak and an absolute disregard for human life. He's also not exactly known for playing loose canon side-kicks either, and unless Suicide Squad is stacked towards being Deadshot's movie, that's exactly what's going to happen.

Will It Work?

Aside from some questionable recent performances (and the unfortunately reductive effect that After Earth seems to have had on everything since), Smith is a dependable actor.

But he has tried edgy quite recently, in the frankly unwatchable New York Winter's Tale, in which he played the pirate devil or something. Needless to say, it wasn't a gamble that worked for him.
