12 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Indiana Jones Franchise

3. Indy Constantly Changes His Mind About What He Believes

As an archaeologist - and as a scientist - it's not entirely surprising that Indy gets into situations that cause him to question his beliefs from time to time. That's exactly what science is all about - discovering new things and moving forwards, adapting to new discoveries and theories as you go. But Indy's memory seems to be short lived: he continually forgets about the things that he seems to have already changed his mind about. The biggest example of this can be glimpsed in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: at the beginning of the movie, Indy is skeptical about the occult; by the end of the movie, he's seen enough to believe in a little "magic." He even admits in the closing scene that he understands the power inherent to the mystical Sankara stones. And yet, in Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is set a year later, he's back to cynical mode, riding off the occult. Huh?
