12 Critically Acclaimed Recent Movies That Actually Sucked

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 73% (6.9/10)

What The Critics Said: Lauded as a visually stunning, nostalgia-fuelled winner for director Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One was largely accepted to be another impressive addition to the filmmaker's impeccable CV.

Why It Actually Sucked: This is another one of those movie's that breezily enjoyable while you're watching it in the cinema, but after you've removed the nostalgia goggles, thought about it for a little while and given it a second viewing at home, it just doesn't really hold up.

Its stylistic aplomb is undeniable, but the avalanche of CGI-heavy pop-culture nods feel decidedly more hollow and cynical without the allure of the IMAX 3D presentation, and it's only really the homage to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining that actually holds up.

It's the cinematic equivalent of chugging a family pack of Skittles in one go: it's momentarily pleasurable but ultimately incredibly sickly. Plus, did it really need to be 140 minutes long?
