12 Depressing Alternate Endings That Were Way Better Than The Originals

1. Paranormal Activity

Before the gimmick over-ruled all of the traditional technical aspects, and the franchise was reduced to a series of cheap jump-scares and misdirection tactics, Paranormal Activity actually wasn't all that terrible. It plugged into the needs of the market well, offering a horror fanbase cruelly robbed of anything but scraps something a bit more substantial, and it was deemed a run-away success because it cost so little.

Basically, the studio loved it. But it wasn't always so Paramount-friendly: originally, the film came with a climactic punch that was far more macabre than the one we all got to see. Originally the script called for the police to break in and kill Katie, but that was binned before Paramount took the rights, and there was also an alternate ending, which was much better than the used version, and much, much darker.

Here it is...

Much more chilling, and surely much more appropriate for the agenda of the film.

The Problem

Hollywood would never have stood for it - and Paramount would never have greenlit an ending that might have took away some of their "franchise appeal," which is a joke, considering how little the studio actually puts in to traditional story-telling with the Paranormal Activity series.
