1. The Bridge (2006)

The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is one of the world's most beautiful bridges, but it has a much darker story that you may or may not be aware of. It is the most popular suicide destination known to man. Spending the entire of 2004 filming the bridge from two angles, Eric Steel captured many of the suicides of that year.

The footage cut with interviews with the friends and relatives of a few chosen subjects, makes for harrowing viewing and has drawn a fair amount of criticism - many say that some of these deaths could have been prevented, although Steel claims that the bridge police were called as soon as their suspicions were raised.

A fascinating, if morbid look at life and death and the mysterious air surrounding the Golden Gate Bridge and what brings many, many people to it each year in their final moments of sadness.

Expect hard hitting imagery and a finale that will shake you to the core - The Bridge is an undeniably unique and important piece of documentary film-making that will have you pondering your mortality for hours, if not days after.
