11. The Queen Of Versailles (2012)

Netflix Docs
Evergreen

This film begins at the pinnacle of David Siegel’s wealth and as he and his wife set out to the build the house of their dreams, inspired by Versailles and designed to be the largest single family home in America.

Amongst the masses of materialistic junk that they’ve amassed, we witness their unashamed display of wealth, power and greed - all the while, raising their spoilt-rotten kids. Cue the economic crisis and the monumental fall of a family who never saw it coming.

If you often dream of being rich beyond your wildest dreams, you may want to put that dream aside for a second and consider the possibilities and consequences of such fortune. You’ll watch much of this film with your mouth gaping, not sure if you're jealous of the amount of money being thrown around with little thought or care, or just simply disgusted.

Of course, it's all worth it once you settle in and begin to enjoy the monumental comeuppance of a family that you just can’t help but despise.
