12 Fiendishly Clever Comic Book Movie In-Jokes You Probably Missed
10. Hans Zimmer's Fiendishly Clever Soundtrack
Given how infamous stoic Christopher Nolan tends to be about keeping his plot details and in fact anything from his sets under wraps (aside from the occasional leak by sneaky extras,) it's odd to see anything hinting at his films before release.
And while there's no details of plot, or indeed anything that could have gotten Nolan upset, there are a couple of pleasant little Eggs in James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer's exceptional soundtrack for Batman Begins that firmly count as Batman in-jokes.
Firstly, as the track listing image above attests, all of Newton and Zimmer's track names for the soundtrack are in Latin, and crucially, all are variations of the different species of Bat.
For instance Myotis is the Latin name for the Mouse-Eared Bat and Antrozous is the Pallid bat. Incidentally, the Bat's that terrorise the young Bruce Wayne in the family well are most likely either the Myotis Lucifugus (which is little and not exactly the most scary winged thing) or the larger brown bat (Eptesicus fuscus) both of which are indigenous to New Jersey (the original location of Gotham) and both of which frequently come into contact with humans.
There's also a second in-joke in the listing, as the first letters of tracks 4-9 spell out the word "Batman." Not exactly revellatory for the film, but nice all the same.
