12 Film Characters Whose Deaths Came Out Of Nowhere

1. Blanche (Drive)

christina hendricks drive At first, it appears that our anti-hero, an unnamed driver (Ryan Gosling) and a gangster's moll, Blanche (Christina Hendricks), have embroiled themselves into a typical heist-gone-wrong scenario. Just before their man was killed holding up a pawn shop, he managed to hand the money over to the driver- who quickly gathered some unwanted attention. A car gives chase but the pair manage to elude capture by hiding in a motel room. There, Blanche tells the driver that her plan was to betray him and split the money with the pursuers. A few minutes later, a figure appears outside the bathroom window and shatters both the glass and Blanche's skull with a point-blank shotgun blast. It's incredibly graphic and guaranteed to take an audience by complete surprise. Director Nicholas Winding Refn may have made his name synonymous with unflinching violence, but his treatment of one of TV's most beloved characters comes across as a cruel joke; at best sacrilegious, at worst sadistic.
