8. Russell Franklin (Deep Blue Sea)

deep blue sea The more technically- minded amongst you might have noticed things were fishy when the camera zoomed in. Just as an explosion is usually preceded by a pan out, these visual cues/clues can sometimes rob a shot of its sudden impact. Yet who can honestly say that they expected Samuel L. Jackson to be eaten by a shark, mid-sentence? As a financial backer sent to check on the Aquatica laboratory, where a team of scientists are working on a cure for Alzheimer's disease, the threat of shark attacks gives him every right to be sceptical. With three researchers already killed, Franklin decides it's time for a speech. ''Now you've seen how bad things can get,'' he tells the assembled survivors, ''Well, they can get a whole lot worse''. Indeed they can; for before he can finish talking about ''sealing off this pool'' we are treated to a close-up of Franklin, whereupon he immediately becomes fish food for the (not-too-shabby CGI) Jaws that had leapt up from behind him. And just when you thought it was safe to go back into the submarine refuelling hub turned research facility...
