What It'€™s About: The story of an American high school massacre told through the eyes and memories of the killer€™s mother, Lynne Ramsay€™s psychological thriller follows (Tilda Swinton) as she struggles to come to terms with her son€™s horrific crimes whilst still trying to remain a part of his life. Told through flashbacks, this former travel writer lives a secluded life, split between a joyless job and visits to her son€™s prison.

Why It'€™s Awesome: Worthy of its Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this engrossing blend of thriller and horror leaves you unable to take your eyes off the screen. Swinton€™s performance is pitiful at times, something she was undoubtedly going for, as her fragile state gives all the power to her manipulative son. As her own misgivings as a mother are slowly revealed, however, Eva is forced to take into account her own culpability.

Why You€™'ll Never Watch It Again: Never a comfortable moment, the film forces us to think about the nature versus nurture argument and the intricacies of motherhood. From blinding his little sister to being caught masturbating by his mother and just looking her in the eye as he continues to whack it, you constantly want to take your eyes off the screen before the massacre Kevin commits even takes place. A chilling and memorable movie, you won€™t need to watch it a second time as most of it gets burned into your mind whether you like it or not.
