Guardians of the Galaxy has taken the world by storm this year. It continues to rock audiences with its humor, heart, and cosmic sense of cool, all of which are on display in the brilliant Kyln escape sequence that unites the reluctantly heroic team for the very first time. They had all been doing well enough (kind of) on their own, but in working together, they prove to be unstoppable. The beloved Rocket is the brain of the operation. His ingenuity is invaluable, but when Groot skips to the last step in Rockets meticulously laid out plan, the rest of the team gets a chance to shine. Groot shields himself and Rocket long enough for Drax the Destroyer to go into attack mode while Gamora and Star-Lord complete their missions. As spellbinding as the action gets in the Kylns richly colorful setting, the films sense of humor stays on point. Hilarious trash talk keeps the laughs building to the climax of Star-Lords fools errand. The sense of chaos gives way to an admiration of the true brilliance of Rockets plan to hitch a ride on the watchtower. The Guardians escape could never have been anything less than successful, making Star-Lords relaxed, perfectly scored victory lap on the way to the Milano a fitting end to this magical scene.
