12 Greatest Ever Disney Trailers

9. Winnie The Pooh - Trailer

The last traditionally animated film released by Disney Animation to date, Winnie The Pooh provided a sweet and light-hearted return to 100 Acer Wood but was upstaged by more modern family entertainment such as the final Harry Potter film.

While it was not marketed as strongly as other Disney films, the trailer we got was genuinely impressive. The whimsical mood of the classic Winnie the Pooh shorts was faithfully replicated, with scenes of our characters floating on balloons and getting chased by bees. However, there were also indications that this universe has received a few updates. Although the animation stayed extremely close to the original style, clips from an elaborate honey-themed fantasy sequence indicated that the animation team were taking advantage of the new technology at their disposal.

The trailer featured probably the best use of a non-Disney song in a Disney trailer. “Somewhere Only We Know”, the 2004 hit for the English rock group Keane, was played over most of the scenes, and represented a brilliant fit. With its downbeat but powerful instrumentals and lyrics about revisiting a special place from your childhood, it provided a nostalgic punch for older audiences who have grown up with Pooh, Piglet and co.

The trailer ended with a caption stating “and this was only the beginning”, indicating that the comedic adventures shown in the trailer were only scratching the surface…
