12 Harry Potter Movie Changes That Were Completely Justified
9. Luna And The Thestrals - The Order Of The Phoenix
In The Book
Hagrid introduces Harry and his classmates to Thestrals, explaining that only those touched by death can see them after Harry sees them pulling the usually horseless coaches from the train station up to Hogwarts.
In The Film
Instead of Hagrid passing on the news, Luna Lovegood gets a touching moment with Harry in which she explains why they can both see the mysterious creatures.
This exchange is a lot more personal, particularly as it allows Harry to share a moment of solidarity with Luna, whose tragic backstory is often glossed over (in favour of her being a comical figure). It scores far higher points for emotional impact, and it adds depth to Luna.
