12 Harry Potter Movie Changes That Were Completely Justified

7. The Death Eater Smoke - The Order Of The Phoenix

In The Book

When they need to get somewhere to attack, Death Eaters merely apparate like everyone else. It's good for stealth, and means instantaneous travel.

In The Film

It might not be quite as practical, but in the movies, the Death Eaters arrive with a little more ceremony thanks to the streams of black smoke that herald their arrival through the sky. In essence, the films make apparition a form of flying, with good guys giving off white smoke and bad guys black - which must have been an easy way of spotting anyone pretending to be good.

Putting aside the logistics, the improvement here is all about pomp and circumstance - the theatre of bad guys turning into black smoke and attacking is still one of the most enduring images from the later movies. And small touch or not, they're a great one.
