Could it have been anything else? Thank you Disney for destroying everyone's souls at such a young age. This is probably the worst death ever in the history of film even if you don't actually get to see it on screen. Which is lucky because if you did, you would likely fall into a life of darkness, sorrow and unending grief. It's cruel to see the the reaction in poor Bambi's eyes at the moment that his heart breaks. How those animators got through the day - let alone sleeping at night - is one of life's great mysteries.
