12 Iconic Movie Characters Who Were Disastrously Recast

10. Annie - Quvenzhané Wallis

The Film: Annie (2014)

In The Original: Aileen Quinn

Beasts Of The Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis wasn't actually the first recast Annie to hit the big screen, but such was the weight of marketing behind the 2014 remake, compared to the 1999 made-for-TV version that it was far more notable.

And sadly for Wallis - and everyone else involved - the remake was as awful as it was unnecessary. It is curiously life-less and a glossy lie compared to the original, with awful musical staging and terrible performances (particularly Cameron Diaz), which simply do not have the personality of those in the original.

Where Aileen Quinn was endearing as Annie in the 80s version, Wallis just comes off as annoying and the film's insistence on her adorableness is inauthentic and cloying. Had Willow Smith stayed in the role as initially intended, that might have been even worse. But then at least she might have actually sung well.
