12 Major Problems With Today's Blockbuster Movies
11. Teasers For Trailers
Obviously, marketing is a vitally important part of the Hollywood machine. How else do you convince people to spend money on your product if they don't know it exists?
However, in the age of media saturation that we live in and the sheer volume of ways in which we can now consume content, the bombardment of promotional materials for Hollywood's big-budget output is verging on the ridiculous.
It used to be that a poster and a couple of trailers were all you needed to sell your movie to the masses. Now we get announcement teasers that don't even feature any footage, thirty-second teaser trailers for ninety-second trailers, full trailers, international trailers, TV spots, out-of-context clips and much more.
Remember the 28 minute cut of The Amazing Spider-Man spliced together just from promotional footage? How many times have you watched several trailers for a summer blockbuster and then wondered where half of the footage was when viewing the final product? These days, it feels like you already know all of the action scenes, comedy beats and plot points before you've even sat down in the theater.
