12 Marvel Mistakes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Must Avoid
Funny, but not too funny.
It's an exciting time to be a Marvel fan, what with less than 18 months to go until the epic Avengers: Infinity War hits screens, but not before new outings from Spider-Man, Thor, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy are released.
Guardians Vol. 2 lands on May 5, 2017, and has a lot to live up to, both in terms of the 2014 original's hugely unexpected success and the general do-no-wrong critical and commercial victories of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That said, as brilliant as the MCU can be, it's not free from some bad habits, such as unambitious writing, low-rent technicals, and a clear desire to appeal to as many people as possible. Hopefully GOTG2 will be a breath of fresh air as far as the franchise goes, and in order for that to happen, it needs to avoid as many of these common MCU pitfalls as it can.
Here are 12 Marvel mistakes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 must avoid...
12. Forgettable Villains
It's probably the most common complaint about the MCU, so let's get it out of the way right now: for every Loki, Winter Soldier and Helmut Zemo, there's a Whiplash, Malekith, Ronan and Yellowjacket to name just a few.
In short, Marvel Studios have a real problem with creating compelling villains, which is shameful given the huge pool of material they have to draw from.
It simply seems that so many of these movies get so wrapped up in getting the heroes right that they figure audiences will forgive some woefully generic baddies, and going by the critical and commercial success of the mammoth franchise to date, they mostly seem to be right.
The first Guardians in particular featured one of the worst MCU villains to date in Ronan, and hopefully the second movie's antagonist (rumoured to be Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha) will have a little more meat on her bones.
