12 Marvel Movies To Make Phase 4 "Distinctly Different"
3. Something With The X-Men
If there's one thing to take from Kevin Feige's admission that Marvel had contingency plans in place for if they got the Fantastic Four/X-Men rights back, it's that somewhere along the line, those talks have happened. Even if only tentatively, there is suggestion that Marvel would do business if there was a deal to be done (as evidenced by two Marvel-produced - if non-MCU - X-Men TV shows being in the works).
With the X-Men brought in to Phase 4, a whole library of new stories would be possible - including the excellent House Of M - and it would represent a major statement of the phase being a new beginning rather than just a continuation. We can only hope that Fox could be convinced that loaning characters/rights would be mutually beneficial.
The Challenges
Even with the precedent established by Sony's deal to bring Spider-Man back to the MCU, it will be a far more difficult task to convince Fox to even consider the same for the X-Men.
Despite Apocalypse they're still hugely financially viable for the studio, and to put it plainly, they don't actually need Marvel. Kevin Feige might have insisted he'd like the rights back, but he's going to have to pull some serious negotiating powers out to get this one over the line.
