12 Marvel Movies To Make Phase 4 "Distinctly Different"
8. Planet Hulk
As long as there is an active Hulk in the MCU and as long as Marvel are looking for films to make, people will suggest that Planet Hulk should exist. It might be a difficult sell, given the need for heavy CGI and the introduction of an entirely alien supporting cast, but if difference is top of Feige's Phase 4 manifesto, then this would be quite the statement.
Sending Hulk off planet would allow for a major story without the intervention of the other Avengers, and giving the big green monster more licence to smash - including in intergalactic gladiator arenas would suit fan desires. It's about time we stop being fed the image of Bruce Banner as a guilty junkie and have him channel the monster within.
The Challenges
Well, Disney are always going to be haunted by the spectre of John Carter, which might as well be Planet Hulk with different characters given the narrative similarities. So they'd have to be assured by Marvel that the same issues wouldn't be repeated to a similarly problematic financial return.
And then of course there's the nagging concern that Hulk stand-alones simply won't work after two false starts. But that would ignore the fact that Ang Lee tried too hard to reinvent the property and Louis Leterrier's sequel/reboot was a mess of a production. With Marvel in charge and those mistakes heeded, failure wouldn't be an inevitability by any means. The final hurdle is that Thor:Ragnarok looks like adapting some of Planet Hulk, but a true adaptation would still be welcomed by fans.
