7. RIP The X-Force

For most of the marketing campaign for Deadpool 2, we were told that it was going to be an X-Force build-up movie that would seed a spin-off or sequel more focused on the team. Early on, we even got to see some shots of the team in action thanks to the trailer, with Terry Crews, Rob Delaney, Lewis Tan and Bill Skarsgard all revealed as secret cast members.

It was all very clever, because it made what actually happened in the film all the more shocking. Rather than this being the beginning of X-Force, it was the end as every member of the team was killed in harrowing, shockingly swift fashion. It was the ultimate f*ck you to comic book fans, a bait and switch of incredible success, playing on our expectations of how Deadpool would cope having to not work alone.

In a bloody sequence not unlike a Final Destination movie, Crews' Bedlam is hit by a bus, Tan's Shatterstar is chopped up by a helicopter, Brad Pitt's Vanisher is electrocuted, Skarsgard's Zeitgeist is shredded by a wood chipper and Peter (Delaney) is melted by Zeitgeist's acid vomit. It was all misdirection done magnificently and that extended sequence was memorable precisely because it was so disturbing.
