12 Most Divisive Movies Of 2018
7. Solo: A Star Wars Story
It's a strange world to be in where a Star Wars movie bombs at the box-office. After three consecutive movies that grossed over a billion dollars each, Solo: A Star Wars Story's disappointing reception was admittedly seen coming a mile off. Not only was the production troubled and the project itself seen as a story that didn't need to be told, the new May release date gave it virtually no breathing room following The Last Jedi and Disney's own Infinity War, which dropped a few weeks before.
While some fans cheered its failure, there were just as many who stepped up to defend the spin-off for what it was: a hugely fun summer blockbuster. Sure, it might not have been a story that needed to be told (but then, what is?), but its action-packed plot - closer to a Space Western than Star Wars has ever been before - and cast of characters more than justified its existence.
Either way, Solo marked an end of an era, and has forced Disney and Lucasfilm to radically reassess its Star Wars slate moving forward.
