As soon as Godzilla debuted in 1954, viewers were dying to see Japan's most iconic kaiju battle against The Eight Wonder of the World, King Kong. Eight years later, they finally got their wish.

Although Kong's costume received a lot of flack because... well... look at it, the fight itself is very creative. The super-sized simian realises he is outmatched against Godzilla and so, relies on strategy rather than raw power. One great moment is when Kong hurls a boulder at Godzilla only for the towering reptile to hurl it back, using his tail like a baseball bat. This shot stands out since it was the first time Godzilla was depicted as a tactical and adaptive fighter rather than a brainless brawler.

Despite Kong's resourcefulness, he soon learns he can't compete with Godzilla. But after being struck by lightning, the big ape's strength is magnified, (just like real life), allowing him to hold his own against his opponent.

Also, having Kong shove a tree down Godzilla's throat as a reference to when he did the same thing to a T-Rex in the original film was a brilliant touch.
