12 Most Hated Blockbuster Movie Endings

7. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Dark Knight Rises Ending
Sony Pictures Releasing

From one Spider-Man movie which killed off a franchise, to another which managed to do the same again a mere 7 years later.

You have to feel a bit sorry for director Marc Webb and actors Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, as they were fighting a losing battle from day one. No one wanted to see Spider-Man rebooted so soon, especially not with the brooding, teenage angst tone that the Amazing Spider-Man movies brought to the mix.

Worse yet was Sony's over-eagerness to launch their own Spider-Man universe, hence The Amazing Spider-Man 2 crams in as many hints and set-ups as possible, whilst rushing through a painfully overstuffed plot that left the characters no room to breathe.

So when the defeat of Jamie Foxx's Electro is quickly followed by the comics-aping death of Stone's Gwen Stacey, which in turn is followed by the revelation that Dane DeHaan's Harry is the Green Goblin, it's all being thrown at you so thick and fast that nothing has a chance to sink in, and when all's said and done it's hard to care.

Stinger scenes were intended to set the stage for the Sinister Six in future films, but after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 went over badly with fans and critics, Sony wisely had a rethink, took a few meetings with Marvel - and we all know where things went from there.
