Superhero horror films are painfully underrepresented in the world of Hollywood, but Brightburn is the shining example of how good they can be when they're done right.

The film kicks off when an alien spaceship, carrying a small baby, crash lands on a small farm in Kansas owned by Tori and Kyle, a couple who are struggling to conceive a child. The couple name their new kid Brandon, however it turns out that the newest addition to the family possesses superpowers such as super-strength, flight, laser vision and the ability to tank a bullet to the back of the head.

A troubled, emotionally-torn child, Brandon begins to unleash his powers in increasingly brutal ways as the film progresses and culminates in a tragic final scene with his mother at the farm. Learning that she plans to kill him, Brandon hurtles himself and his mum up into the sky, lets her fall back down to her death and then crashes an incoming airplane.

The film's end credits sequence show Brandon beginning his attacks on the world, bewildering news casters and destroying buildings in the most anti-Superman move imaginable.
