12 Most Rewatchable Movie Sequels Of All Time
2. How To Train Your Dragon: Part 2
The first How To Train Your Dragon was a huge hit with kids and their parents, fusing its fan fantasy action with a compelling coming-of-age story. Anchored by solid performances from a cast including Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, and Jonah Hill, the film was an unexpected delight when it hit theatres in 2010.
The follow up was inevitable but impressively the filmmakers refused to rush production and create a carbon copy sequel. It wasn’t until 2014 that Part II was released, and with it came a darker, more mature tone. Who would have expected one of the year’s saddest movie moments to come from a How to Train Your Dragon sequel?
The movie kept the glossy colour palate, impressive FX, and fun character comedy of the original while adding a more emotionally resonant storyline, deepening the backstory of the series and offering a far scarier villain than its predecessor. A cartoon classic that can hold its own against Pixar’s offerings is an achievement in itself, but following this feat with sequel which improves on the original is even more impressive.
