If there was anyone heading to the cinema without an awareness of the eponymous boat’s fate and the ignoble end met by many of its passengers, there are serious issues with education standards that need to be addressed. Based on one of the most famous disasters of the twentieth century, James Cameron’s mega budget blockbuster broke all sorts of record when it arrived on our screens in 1997, but no one was going to the epic romance in search of a surprise survival from its pair of protagonists.

We knew Rose would make it out alive given the film’s framing device, but as soon as a young Leonardo DiCaprio arrived onscreen to play her baby-faced love interest his fate was all but sealed, and sure enough the film’s ending confirmed the inevitable.

So it must be because of the actor's superb performance and the pair's great chemistry that we always seem to get something stuck in our eye whenever that Celine Dion theme song comes on.
