12 Movies Studios Tried (And Failed) To Fix After Fan Reactions

11. The Invasion (2007)

Remaking 1956 sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers was never going to be easy, which is why David Kajganich, the screenwriter Warner Brothers hired to do just that, didn't.

Instead, Kajganich crafted an original, up to date story, and director Oliver Hirschbiegel signed on his bestest, freshest new James Bond - Daniel Craig - to front the picture. Upon completion, however, the studio were unhappy with the earthy, spooky but humanly grounded picture that Hirschbiegel had put together and subsequently hired the Wachowskis (yes, those Wachowskis) alongside James Teigue (Matrix and Star Wars assistant director) to pump up the action and add a twist ending in re-shoots.

A match made in heaven, this was not. Thirteen months after the film had originally wrapped production, the re-shoots took place and, amongst other things, sent co-star Nicole Kidman to the hospital. The end product was a slick and stylish mess that failed to plumb any emotional or thematic depths and made less than half of its budget.
