12 Movies That Wasted Great Twist Ideas

2. Halloween 2— Michael Is Laurie's Brother

Life Itself Twist
Paramount

Now this is admittedly a controversial entry, as the franchise's own creator Assault on Precinct 13 director John Carpenter admitted that the idea for this last minute twist came to him "after a six pack of beers at two in the morning".

And many fans feel that it shows.

So yes, it's easy to admit that part of Michael Myer's terrifying character is the idea that he kills at random, that he's evil incarnate and can't be reasoned with. Thus it's understandable that Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green's 2018 reboot jettisoned the family angle entirely.

But the reveal in Halloween II that Laurie Strode is Michael's secret sister could have been used to explain his dogged, single-minded determination to track her down. After all, this determination leads him to ignore and sidestep other potential victims throughout the first two films, a frustrating plot hole which this twist could have filled in had it been better handled and more gracefully pulled off.
