12 Movies That Wasted Great Twist Ideas

8. A Star Is Born— The Hero Kills Himself (Thanks To Some Random)

Life Itself Twist

By now on its fourth film adaptation, A Star is Born inevitably had trouble reinventing its surprisingly tragic ending in Bradley Cooper's critically acclaimed 2018 re-telling of the tale.

However, the changes made amount to less of an interesting reinvention and more of a disastrous fumble.

In this iteration of the often-told tale, Cooper's troubled rock star kills himself at the suggestion of his love interest's manager, a bitter side character who until now had little bearing on proceedings.

A more daring version of the film could have had Cooper succumb to depression by himself as in earlier versions of the story, and ended this Cinderella tale on a daringly dark note.

Instead, this re-telling invents a minor side character to shoulder the blame and sap the moment of any lasting sting.

Does anything the audience has seen thus far make it believable that this bedraggled star is someone who would simply accept an invitation to suicide from a Mark Ronson wannabe? And isn't it a lot less tragic when it wasn't his hubris and sadness that killed, but instead more some A+R tool?
