12 Oscar Winning Actors Who Starred In Awful Horror Movies

1. Nicolas Cage - The Wicker Man

It’s probably more surprising that Nicolas Cage was actually once capable of winning an Academy Award than starred in a bad film considering his tendency to feature in stinkers like Bangkok Dangerous and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, to mention but a few of his career lowlights.

Once upon a time, however, Cage was hot Hollywood property starring in critically acclaimed films like Uncle Francis Ford Coppola’s Peggy Sue Got Married and early Coen Brothers favourite Raising Arizona and scooping a Best Actor win in 1996 for his role as a suicidal, alcoholic screenwriter in Leaving Las Vegas.

But people fall on hard times and frivolously buying European castles and Bahamian islands and neglecting to pay your taxes will eventually come back to bite you on the arse. Which may go a little way to explain some of Cage’s more questionable career choices. Case in point: the 2006 remake of classic British horror film The Wicker Man.

Featuring Cage in an over the top performance the likes of which hadn’t been seen since Face/Off, it’s not just that The Wicker Man remake pales in comparison to its predecessor but more that it’s a truly bad film in its own right.

To give the film its dues though, it does border on being one of those ‘so good they’re bad’ movies. And where else can you witness Nicolas Cage dressed as a bear sucker punching a woman in the face?
