12 People Who Totally Broke The Law To Make Great Movies
1. When Kim Jong Il Wants A Movie, Kim Jong Il Steals A Movie
Leave it to North Korea. The country that infamously decided that The Interview was basically grounds for war once broke all sorts of laws to pander to the desires of erstwhile leader Kim Jong Il, a movie buff who outlawed international movies and who openly wished his country's movie output could be as good as those made in South Korea.
In order to make that a reality, the supreme leader employed his favourite actress and director - in other words, he forcibly kidnapped them and brought them to North Korea where they were imprisoned. He then told the married couple that they would never see each other again if they didn't make his vision for a film: the monster movie Pulgasari, which would channel his love of Godzilla movies.
The result of this incredible flaunting of international human rights laws was a crappy monster flick, impregnated with wayward propaganda and an anti-capitalist message (obviously). But if you ask anyone in North Korea, it's probably the run-away choice for Best Movie Ever.
