12 Perfect Horror Movies With One Glaring Flaw
1. Jaws - The Fake-Looking Shark
Jaws is arguably, with its amazing characters, peerless screenplay, terrifying set-pieces and uncanny mastery of suspense, the greatest horror film of all freaking time. Pretty much every single second of it is cinematic gold.
That doesn't mean it's perfect though.
During the movie's tumultuous production, the models being used for the shark were constantly breaking down, so director Steven Spielberg eventually opted to show the shark as little as possible. This was a masterful decision, for the shark's lack of screen-time is one of the many things that makes the film so frightening and effective, but there's another reason why this was a good thing: the shark looks awful.
Does it ruin the movie? Of course not, but few could deny that the shark looks like an oversized rubber bath-toy, and this is one part of the film that really hasn't aged well. Most notably, there's one moment where it's stated that the shark is biting through some ropes when it very clearly isn't, and in fact, the model's head is just waving about.
Basically, this is pretty much the epitome of a terrible flaw lurking in an otherwise masterful horror offering.
