12 Perfect Horror Movies With One Glaring Flaw
11. It Follows - The Ending SUCKS
One of the biggest recurring problems in horror cinema is underwhelming conclusions. So, so many great horror films have irritating endings that don't match what came before them in the slightest. That's not surprising - it can be pretty hard to provide a satisfying pay-off to a feature film's worth of fear and build-up - but it's still a frustrating issue.
If there's one horror flick that was really hit badly by this in recent years it's definitely It Follows, David Robert Mitchell's terrifying directional debut.
With its amazing visuals, splendid cast, smart script and uniquely unsettling premise, It Follows is one of the most frightening, heart-in-mouth horror movies in recent memory, and a cinematic nightmare in the best way imaginable.
Still, the ending is pretty bloody terrible. The picture concludes with the main characters coming up with an exceptionally stupid plan to lure the villainous entity into a swimming pool and electrocute it. There are so many ways this plan could've gone wrong, it's a miracle that protagonist Jay (an excellent Maika Monroe) got out alive. Mitchell openly admitted it was a terrible plan in an interview, so one can't help but wonder why he still proceeded with this.
Even aside from the logic issues, this entire finale is nowhere near as good as what came before, and the It Follows' subsequent scenes - an open ending which leaves the fate of the creature ambiguous - are also unsatisfying.
To sum up: great movie, garbage ending.
