12 Recent Films That Fell Apart In The Final Act

6. Saw X

Triangle of Sadness
Lionsgate

Saw X is, for most of its run-time, very good. The fact that it's the only Saw film to get a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes really says it all and for the first two acts, this is an excellently acted, ferociously intense and gently affecting torture horror film that hits seriously hard.

Unfortunately, the final act needed work. Like, a lot of work.

Cecilia (Synoove Macody Lund), one of the players in John's (Tobin Bell) game suddenly starts behaving like an OTT Bond villain, the traps in this concluding section of the film are seriously boring and the film also throws in an unnecessary kid character who John befriends and who's put in a trap, alongside John, by Cecilia.

That leads neatly onto another big issue: it tries too hard to make John likable. Yes, he's always been more sympathetic than most movie serial killers but he is also a violent psychopath who doesn't actually stay true to the values he pretends to uphold. Like, he's not the good guy, you know.

The rest of the movie is good enough that one can still look back on the film with fondness, but aside from a very neat mid-credits scene Saw X's final reels fell short of the awesomeness of not only the rest of this film, but also of many other Saw endings.
