This gloriously gory - and gruesomely literal - slice of Spanish dystopia picked up the People's Choice Award for Midnight Madness at last year's Toronto International Film Festival and has already built up something of a cult reputation with genre fans since its release on Netflix in March.
Crafting a sci-fi chiller where the titular surface descends through a multi-tiered prison carrying food, it's got no shortage of allegorical power to match its grisly exploits, which debutant Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia orchestrates with nasty effectiveness. This one deserves to stick in the mind.
