12 Saddest Heroic Sacrifices In Movies
11. T-800 - Terminator 2
Few movies managed to successfully turn their main villain into the hero in the sequel but the T-800 is one of those few successes. From major killing machine to guardian, the T-800 had a rollercoaster of a storyline and his sacrifice to save the world and prevent Judgement Day was the perfect way to end his character and complete his redemption arc (if we completely ignore all those terrible sequels).
Throughout Terminator 2, the T-800 learnt the importance of humanity and became a father-figure to the future resistance leader of the world, John Connor. He has to battle the much stronger T-1000, win the trust of Sarah Connor and keep John Connor safe.
At the end of the movie, after beating the T-1000 and destroying all evidence of Skynet in a vat of molten steel, John and Sarah sighed in relief that they have won, and Judgement Day will not come to pass - until the T-800 realises there is one piece of Skynet left that must be melted away: itself.
As the two tearfully say their goodbyes, the T-800 says “I know now why you cry” It’s a simple line but shows marks that it has become more than a robot, and has learnt to understand the concept of love.
