12 Sci-Fi Movies Plagued By Reshoots

2. Monster Trucks

The Invasion Daniel Craig
Paramount

It's hardly likely that Monster Trucks was going to set the world alight but at the very least it could have been a fun adventure film for kids. Alas it ended being a massive financial burden for Paramount.

The film was supposed to be released in May 2015 but ended up getting pushed back by 20 months thanks to reshoots. It bombed heavily, grossing just $65 million on a $125 million budget, derailing all plans for a Monster Trucks franchise.

The reason for the reshoots is actually quite hilarious. The test audience it was shown to was mainly comprised of kids and their parents, half of whom walked out before the credits rolled because of how terrible the film was.

Even crazier than that, the kids were left terrified by the initial design of the titular monsters, who were described by one audience member as:

"A cross between Judge Doom [from Who Framed Roger Rabbit], a mentally-handicapped E.T. and a squid"

The reshoots to fix the monsters' design and improve the quality of the film set Paramount back millions and cost them a summer release date.

In many ways Monster Trucks has a similar production story to the recent Sonic The Hedgehog movie but without the happy ending.
