12 Shocking Documentaries That Will Change How You See The World
10. Super Size Me (2004)
One of the most famous documentaries ever made, Super Size Me was watched en masse because of the global obsession with fast food. The 2004 documentary created by Morgan Spurlock saw the filmmaker eat nothing but McDonald’s food for 30 days and track how the diet affected every part of his life.
The rules of the documentary were that he could only consume products bought from McDonald’s (Including bottled water), he had to eat everything on the menu at least once and he had to say yes every time the employee offered to super size his meal. Each day, Spurlock ate on average 5000 calories (double the amount that his body needs to sustain weight) and saw a 13% body mass increase as well as mood swings and difficulty in suxual performance.
Although the average person doesn’t eat fast food daily, the documentary hammers home just how damaging it can be to your body. It looks into the obesity epidemic that plagues America and encourages people to think about the impact of their food not just in terms of fat content but how it impacts other bodily functions.
