12 Shocking Movie Deaths You Won't Believe Almost Happened
5. Dr. Ian Malcom Gets Eaten By A Dinosaur - Jurassic Park
One of the many highlights of the first Jurassic Park film (and one of the only few in The Lost World) was Jeff Goldblum's seedy but incredibly charismatic turn as Dr. Ian Malcom. Whilst Malcolm manages to survive the film before going on to headline the sequel, the character's fate was originally going to be much different. Unhappy with Michael Crichton's original Jurassic Park script, Spielberg commissioned several rewrites where the characters were given more focus and development. The character of Ian Malcolm in particular went through a lot of change - initially deleted altogether before being reinserted back and killed off by dinosaurs. This was the semi-concrete plan until Spielberg cast Goldblum in the role and everyone couldn't help but be impressed by the guy. After realising that killing off Malcolm would also mean no more shots of Jeff Goldblum in calendar pin-up poses, Crichton quickly got rid of the character's death scene and the rest became history. In fact, Goldblum made a big enough impression that Crichton decided to retcon a few things in his original novel retroactively in order to bring Malcolm back to life for The Lost World.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
