12 Star Trek Films And Series You Won't Believe Were Almost Made

1. Star Trek: The Beginning

The last film in development before J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot, Star Trek: The Beginning would had been the first of a trilogy bridging the gap between Star Trek: Enterprise and the Kirk era that would see Kirk's ancestor, Tiberius Chase caught up in the Earth/Romulan war that resulted in the foundation of the Federation. A first draft of the script was produced, set a few years after the end of Star Trek: Enterprise, which would have dispensed with the traditional single ship and crew in favour of a small group of people across multiple ships, with Tiberius Chase as the primary focus. It was a bold idea that would have rejuvenated Star Trek in an exciting new direction. But a change of Paramount Pictures' president brought everything to a halt. This trilogy would have done what Star Trek: Enterprise ultimately failed to do; show the founding of the Federation and the origins of Star Trek as fans knew it. Of all the spin-offs and reboots on this list, Star Trek: The Beginning may have been the biggest lost opportunity. A lot of fans want a new Star Trek series and some of these on this list might have been a hit had they ever been allowed to succeed, though it is hard to imagine anyone enjoying a Lwaxana Troi sitcom! Would you have enjoyed any of these films or spin offs? Or are they best left in a vault to gather dust forever? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
