Marion Crane robs a client from the estate agency in which she works. On the run, she goes one rainy night to the Bates Motel to get a room. A shifty Norman Bates invites her to have dinner with him and explains that his mother is mentally ill. When Marion suggests he have her institutionalised, he is irate. Marion decides to leave and return the money but first has a shower.. A shadowy figure comes into the bathroom and stabs her to death in some pretty shocking scenes. We see and hear the knife enter Marion's naked body. And the music to the scene has become iconic. This was one of the first times mainstream audiences of the day got to see a character being killed on screen with no holds barred. The critics were divided but the public loved the movie and queued around the block to see it. Even today after watching it years ago I still get madman-in-the-shower paranoia. I'm more of a bath person...
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
